Get your start-up wired: basic network setup
Updated December 19, 2005

Even though you're just starting out, your business will benefit from a basic network. Not only will you be connected to the Internet, but all of your employees will be connected to each other, which saves a lot of hassle when sharing files. You don't need to drop a lot of money to set up a flexible network that will grow with your company, either. Just the basics will do to begin with.

Review summary The Linksys WRT54GS is especially well suited for networks with both 802.11g and 802.11b connections. The WPC54G is a great value and a good way for families or businesses on a budget to add 802.11g to a laptop. The DWL-G520 offers solid speed and security, but like all PCI adapters, it's a pain to install. The Netgear WG111 is one of the best all-around wireless USB adapters we've seen. The DWP-2100AP is the fastest Wi-Fi access point we've tested, but its convoluted setup guide and manual mean networking newbies need not apply.
