Phones for spies: gadgets as seen on TV's Alias

Tom Merritt,
Editor
If you ever watch Alias, you're probably impressed at the cutting-edge technology that the world's most secret spy agency uses to stop the bad guys. Look a little closer, and it may surprise you how familiar some of that technology really is. Those laptops in the briefings with the red spot on the back look suspiciously like Apple PowerBooks. Sydney Bristow (Jennifer Garner) is definitely chatting on a Black Razr this year, but did you notice that Jack Bristow seems to be talking into a Jabra headset? We put together a few of the gadgets we've seen while watching Alias. If you spy more, let us know by e-mailing buzz@cnet.com.

Review summary The foxy Apple 17-inch PowerBook delivers the performance and the features most users will need, but it's more expensive than a similarly outfitted Windows laptop. Jabra's FreeSpeak BT250 offers an impressive mix of comfort, ease of use, and performance. The Motorola Razr V3 comes in a special black edition. If you're looking for a reliable audio solution for your conference room, start with Polycom's SoundStation2 EX.
