(2/13/02) Lately, there's been a lot of news about cell phone legislation to restrict the use of cell phones in automotive vehicles. Last year, New York was the first state to pass such a law--but it's not the only one. Currently, 7 states have enacted various cell-phone laws and at least 25 other states have statutes under consideration. In many cases, using a headset with your phone or the built-in speakerphone of a mobile is permitted. But to give you a clear picture of the existing legislation, we've included a chart from the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL).
