No Bluetooth from Verizon...yet
Q:
I purchased a new Lexus, expecting to use the Bluetooth feature with my Verizon Wireless phone. Does the service provider offer any phones that can be used with Bluetooth?
--Joe
A:
Verizon doesn't currently have any Bluetooth-enabled cell phones in its lineup. But that doesn't mean it won't. Word is we should see some Bluetooth-enabled handsets later this year, so hang tight.
Pulling the old switcheroo
Q:
I have the LG 1010 cell phone, and I would like to know how to activate it with another company.
--Lakisha
A:
That's a GSM phone, which has a SIM card system that can make these switchovers easier. If the SIM in the phone happens to be unlocked, all you have to do is enter the SIM card you get from your new service provider into your LG 1010, and that's it--it'll be ready to use. If the SIM is locked, you'll see an onscreen prompt when you insert the new SIM card into the phone, asking you for an unlock code; you'll need to get that from your previous carrier. Many carriers offer that information for free, while some charge you $25.
By the way, if you want to keep your cell phone number, simply show your current cell phone bill to the salespeople selling you the new service, and they'll take it from there.
Your Sony Ericsson upgrade options
Q:
I have an AT&T GSM plan. I'm interested in upgrading my phone to a new Sony Ericsson, either the T637 or the K700. Can you compare the two models, and do you know which provider might carry them?
--Tom
A:
Think of the T637 as slick upgrade to the popular T616, adding Push To Talk functionality. On the other hand, the K700 adds ambitious features such as 32MB of RAM, MP3 ring tones, and photo sharing.
The T637 will be available later this month with Cingular service. The K700 will hit stores later this summer, although a carrier hasn't been announced yet.
