Kyocera goes easy with its new cell phones for CTIA
By Kent German (March 11, 2005)

Since Kyocera first brought its cell phones to the United States five years ago, it has stuck mostly to producing basic, functional handsets whose sole purpose is to make calls. Of course, there have been exceptions, such as the 7135 smart phone and, most recently, the KX2 Koi, but we're not used to seeing anything too wild from the company. Similar to last year's CTIA, when the company's theme for the show was "simple rules," Kyocera has chosen the mantra "go easy" for 2005. Three of the company's new handsets are simple and uncomplicated and won't confuse a cell phone newbie. The Topax KX7 and the Prisma KX17 offer only the most bare-bone features, while the KX9 ramps things up a bit with analog roaming and a speakerphone. But advanced users are not left out completely. The Slider Remix KX5 sports a megapixel camera, a music player, and an expandable memory slot in a cool slider form factor. It's also the first Kyocera mobile to come with support for both BREW and Java.
