Windows XP, Microsoft's flashy new operating system, hit shelves on October 25, and it seems like everyone has a serious case of OS envy, if only due to Microsoft's fluffy ad campaign.

Don't have the cash for the new OS? Or maybe you're wary of XP's new activation feature? Or perhaps you're perfectly happy with Windows 98 or Me but want to give your PC a new attitude?

We've assembled a grab bag of tricks, tips, and software to make your Windows 98 or Me machine look like, act like, and, to some extent, work like the real XP.
