CNET GLOSSARY: Terms for the techie
A technique that matches the apparent locations of sounds with the position of objects on the screen by varying a sound's volume and delay among multiple speakers. Frequently used in computer games, this technique makes individual sounds appear to move not only from speaker to speaker, but also among specific locations beside or behind the user. The most popular scheme is Creative Labs' Aureal 3D (A3D).
