active matrix
The most popular type of flat-panel display. Active-matrix displays use transistors to control each dot on the screen, which results in faster response and brighter, crisper images than those produced by passive-matrix displays (which are largely obsolete as computer displays). Another name for this type of display is thin-film transistor (TFT).
