CNET GLOSSARY: Terms for the techie
backdoor program
A program that allows unauthorized users to access and control a computer or a network. These programs are often associated with worms or Trojan horses. In the first case, computers become infected with a worm that loads the backdoor program; in the second, victims download and run a program that seems innocuous but actually contains the backdoor program.
