V.42bis
A standard established by the ITU-T for modem manufacturers to follow to ensure compatible speeds, compression, and error correction. V.42bis is a hardware-based standard that offers improved error correction and compression capabilities over earlier standards. It also provides speeds of up to 28.8 kilobits per second. Bis (French for encore) is an international designation for the first revision to a standard.
