vector graphics 
A technique used by computer-aided design (CAD) programs and drawing applications such as Adobe Illustrator and CorelDraw to produce graphics by using geometric formulas. Vector graphics have advantages over bitmaps: the images do not become pixellated, they scale up easily, and multiple overlapping elements within the graphic can be manipulated independently.
