Winsock
Windows socket services A programming interface that mediates between Windows applications (such as FTP, a Web browser, Telnet, and so forth) and the Internet protocol. Winsock is used with Microsoft Windows, and most commonly with TCP/IP (though other protocols are also supported). The software is typically stored in a file called winsock.dll.
