Registry 
A database used by the Microsoft Windows operating system to hold system configuration data that includes user profile information, hardware information (such as device management), and software-specific details (such as file extension associations). The Registry can be edited using a program called RegEdit. Doing so is risky, however, as errors could disable the system.
