This term most commonly refers to junk e-mail, but it can be a mass mailing to bulletin boards or newsgroups, or an unwanted, off-topic message in an inappropriate forum. The term derives from a Monty Python routine that involved an endlessly repetitive diet of Hormel's processed meat product.
