CNET GLOSSARY: Terms for the techie
convergence (information technology)
The merging of personal computing, telecommunications, and television into a single technology platform. One of the few early examples was WebTV, discontinued by Microsoft in 2001. Currently, cell phones and PDAs are leading the convergence push by incorporating digital cameras, Web browsers, and TV or radio receivers, for example.
