| CNET GLOSSARY: Terms for the techie
laser printer
A type of printer that produces high-quality text and graphics at high speeds. When a file is sent to the printer, a laser beam creates electrostatic images on a selenium-coated drum. After the drum is charged, it is rolled in toner, a dry plastic heat-sensitive polymer powder. The toner adheres to the charged images and is then fused onto a sheet of paper through a combination of heat and pressure. After each page is printed, the electrical charge is removed from the drum.
