Mbone
Contraction of multicast backbone. A group of servers throughout the Internet that support the IP multicast protocol. This protocol allows the transmission of multimedia data, such as live audio and video, to multiple users at the same time; it also makes possible IP telephony and videoconferencing. Mbone was developed by Steve Deering at Xerox PARC and adopted by the Internet Engineering Task Force in 1992.
