Multi-Format (MF) Drive
A DVD rewritable drive that supports more than one of the competing DVD recrodable/rewritable standards. Sony's DRU-500a was the first such drive and supports both the DVD-R/RW and DVD-R/RW standards. MF drives that read DVD-RAM too are also on the market.
