InterNIC
Internet Network Information Center This organization, no longer active, was responsible for registering and maintaining the .com, .net, and .org domain names on the World Wide Web. It began as a collaborative project between AT&T and Network Solutions (NSI), supported by the National Science Foundation, but it was disbanded, and its responsibilities were handed over to ICANN in 1999.
