CNET GLOSSARY: Terms for the techie
hosting
If you or your business does not want to deal with the hardware, software, and security hassles of maintaining a Web site, you may hire a Web hosting service to do all the dirty work for you. A host service provides server space, broadband Internet access (such as access to a T1 line), a domain name, e-mail addresses, and backup services for data, power, and so on. Hosting is different from colocation, where you would buy the equipment but have a service house and maintain it.
