frame buffer
The memory on a graphics card or in a computer's main memory that stores image information not being displayed onscreen. When the system needs to refresh the onscreen image, it accesses the image data in the frame buffer. If the monitor uses an analog signal (all CRTs and some LCDs do), the rendered frames are converted by the RAM digital-to-analog converter (RAMDAC) and displayed.
