CNET GLOSSARY: Terms for the techie
depth of field
The range of distances from the camera at which objects will appear in focus. A smaller aperture (also known as a higher f-stop) provides greater depth of field. Cameras with aperture-priority automatic exposure allow you to set the f-stop to achieve a particular depth of field and then adjust the shutter speed to obtain the correct exposure.
