digital TV
Provided by all satellite TV services and most cable TV operators, digital TV (DTV) uses digital signals rather than the analog signals of conventional broadcast or cable TV. The chief benefits are more channels and less distortion than analog TV. In 1996, the FCC approved the DTV standard, which includes 18 formats, including HDTV.
