If the BlackBerry debacle has taught us anything, it's how much we depend on such devices to stay in touch with the office, get work done on the road, obtain news, and more. Smart phones have changed the way we work; no longer are we slaves to our desk. So which models make the best business associates? Well, a number of qualified candidates are out there, such as the UTStarcom XV6700 and the RIM BlackBerry 8700c, but unfortunately, we can pick only six, so here they are. These smart phones are stocked with productivity tools such as QWERTY keyboards, e-mail, and software, as well as connectivity features such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, EDGE, and EV-DO, and they have proven themselves in the performance department. Read on to see if one is right for you.

Review summary Although we weren't terribly impressed by the call quality or the form factor, the Cingular 8100 series provides powerful tools to the mobile professional for getting work done on the go. For those who want to do more on the go, the T-Mobile SDA offers a winning package of productivity tools, multimedia, and great performance. We just wish the smart phone had a better keypad layout. Though it has its shortcomings, the PalmOne Treo 650 offers solid performance and adds some key features to maintain its reign as smart-phone leader. Although far from perfect, the Sprint PPC-6700 is definitely smarter than most smart phones and almost good enough to earn the title of Treo killer. The Nextel i930 by Motorola is a good choice for executives looking for a world phone that syncs seamlessly with Outlook--if you can live with the poor battery performance and the lack of Bluetooth. The Nokia 9300 includes handy features for corporate users, though some of them could use work.
