Verizon's best: our favorite Verizon Wireless phones

Verizon Wireless has done a lot over the past year to expand its cell phone lineup. Last December, it finally introduced the Razr V3c, which not only brought the trendy slim handset to a CDMA carrier but also offered access to Verizon's growing 3G EV-DO network. Also EV-DO compatible are the LG VX9800 and the Motorola E815. Both mobiles offer streaming video, Bluetooth, and 1.3-megapixel cameras, plus the LG VX9800 comes with a full QWERTY keyboard. For workaholics, the Samsung SCH-i730 is a powerful and well-designed machine in a stylish slider design, and the Palm Treo 700w offers Windows Mobile 5 in the familiar Treo form factor. If you don't need such fancy frills, the simple Kyocera KX444 offers a rugged casing, a speakerphone, and support for Verizon's push-to-talk network.

Review summary The Motorola Razr V3c matches the original Razr in almost every way but adds 3G capability and improved call quality. A QWERTY keyboard makes messaging faster, easier, and more fun on the fully loaded LG VX9800, but the trade-off is a bulky, less-than-cool handset. Verizon's new V Cast flip phone, the Motorola E815 scores with a sharp 1.3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, plenty of RAM, and an MP3 player. Small, light, and powerful, the Samsung SCH-i730's high-speed data support and built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi make it an excellent choice for those who have to stay connected at all times, though the crippled Bluetooth support may spoil the party for laptop road warriors. The Palm Treo 700w brings Windows Mobile and a number of useful features, such as push e-mail and photo speed dial, to the much-beloved smart phone, but its heft and its washed-out screen has us giving the edge to the Treo 650. The sturdy Kyocera KX444 is light on multimedia features but is a great tool for PTT and traditional wireless users alike.
