Nokia E-series line show
By Bonnie Cha
(October 17, 2005)

We've seen some major smart-phone news in the past couple of months, with the unveiling of the Palm Treo on Windows Mobile 5 and the Sprint PPC-6700. Now Nokia's getting in on the action with its brand-new E series. Aimed at business users, the E series consists of three models: the Nokia E60, the Nokia E61, and the Nokia E70. All three smart phones run on Symbian OS 9.1 and support a number of corporate mobile e-mail solutions, including GoodLink, BlackBerry Connect, and Nokia Business Center. Plus, they feature advanced voice services, such as Voice over IP (VoIP) and push-to-talk capabilities.

Though all three Nokia E-series models offer many of the same features, they each display a distinctive design to match their functionality. Focused more on phone capabilities, the Nokia E60 sports a classic candy bar shape and comes with a host of voice options: speakerphone, conference calling, push to talk, and VoIP. The Nokia E61 is intended to be used as a mobile e-mail device, and its styling may look a little familiar (think BlackBerry). The lean, mean e-mail machine is armed with a full QWERTY keyboard and push e-mail clients such as BlackBerry Connect, GoodLink, Nokia Business Center, Seven Mobile Mail, Seven Always-On Mail, and Visto Mobile, as well as an editing function and support for attachments. Finally, the Nokia E70 combines the best of both worlds with a classic candy bar shape that flips opens to reveal a full keyboard like the Nokia 6820. The trio should be available worldwide in the first quarter of 2006, but it's unclear when any of the devices will wash up on U.S. shores and whether they'll be picked up by a carrier. Still, we're excited to get our hands on these smart phones to see what they're all about.
