Rock out with Sprint Music phones |

Late last year, with the announcement of its Power Vision network, Sprint was the first wireless carrier in the nation to launch its own music store. Taking a departure from the traditional method of music transfer (uploading from the PC to the phone), the Sprint Music Store allows Sprint users with compatible phones to download music on the fly. While this may sound like a great idea, Sprint charges $2.50 per song download, and if you want to use a purchased song as a ring tone, you have to pay an additional fee. Still, Sprint is a pioneer in this arena, and it appeals to those of us who want instant gratification. There are a few Sprint Music-compatible phones out there. The first is the Sanyo MM-9000, a flip phone that comes with a 1.3-megapixel camera and a 16MB Mini SD memory card slot. Next is the Samsung MM-A940, also a flip phone but this time with music-player controls on the flap for easier playlist management. Then there's Sprint's answer to the Motorola Razr, the Samsung MM-A900, which has music-player controls and a 1.3-megapixel camera. Finally, there's the Samsung MM-A920, which comes with a 1.3-megapixel camera, a 32MB TransFlash card, and music-player controls. More resources

| Review summary | The Sanyo MM-9000 flip phone is a good choice for a 3G phone, but better options exist in Sprint's stable. | The well-performing Samsung MM-A940 does a good job of executing its broad range of multimedia features. | Though the Samsung MM-A900 is unlikely to win over the most hard-core Razr fans, it's still a compelling and promising alternative to the popular Motorola phone. | The attractive Samsung MM-A920 comes with a great selection of features, but we wish the offerings were more refined. |
