Go easy with Kyocera
(September 13, 2006)
Kyocera keeps to its "Go easy" theme by introducing two very basic phones at the fall CTIA show in Los Angeles. Without any fancy features such as cameras, music players, or Bluetooth, the K122 and the K132 are all about making calls. The phones' designs are simple as well, and they should appeal to users who are looking for a functional, easy-to-use handset.
The K122 is bound for India, Latin America, and Southeast Asia, so while it won't make it to the U.S. market, its sub-$50 price point alone makes it notable. Kyocera said it's aiming to make CDMA handsets as affordable as GSM models in emerging markets. Despite its minimalist candy bar form factor, the K122 is attractive and comes styled in basic black. We also like the nifty monochrome display with the color filter. The K132, which will make it stateside, is equally simple in form and function. Though we like the blue body on the flip phone, we do think it's a tad too boxy, and we always miss an external display. Both handsets should be available by the end of the year.
