![]() Aimee Baldridge Senior editor |
Updated September 8, 2005 If you're picky about color in your videos, a three-chip camcorder may be what you need. But not everyone with a discerning eye wants the bulk that comes with most three-chip models, which are usually relatively large cameras made for serious videographers. These compact camcorders put the video quality of three-chip technology in much more portable packages. More resources

| Review summary | A bargain for a three-chip camera, the Panasonic PV-GS250 is a great choice for an amateur with serious aspirations or just a discerning eye. | Attractive and compact, the Sony Handycam DCR-PC1000 MiniDV camera offers excellent image quality for its class and brings CMOS technology to the world of camcorders. But its overly clever user interface doesn't do its feature set justice. | This extremely compact, nicely designed camera should please technophiles who want both photo and video capabilities and can afford to splurge. | The GR-X5 is a capable jack-of-all-imaging-trades and, as the saying goes, a master of none. | The smallest three-chip camcorder yet, the MPEG-2-recording Panasonic SDR-S100 is at the forefront of solid-state consumer video camera technology, but that doesn't mean its video quality is above average. |
