Review summary

Get MSN 8.0 if you need family-friendly Internet access and parental controls; it's not for Net-savvy surfers, though.
By Daniel Tynan, July 2, 2003
Everyone else is calling it MSN 8.0, but Microsoft says a recent package of updates won't change the name of its product. Whatever the name, the recharged MSN 8.0 adds a number of subtle but welcome improvements--and solidifies the ISP's spot ahead of AOL. Easier-to-find parental access controls, better junk-mail filters, and a few interface and performance tweaks help MSN 8.0 add to its edge over AOL 8.0. Net newbies, disgruntled AOL users, and those with families should look to MSN for the best all-in-one Internet package, but anyone using another ISP, such as EarthLink, needn't switch.
