Step 1: Document hardware components
To prepare for the following steps, take a few minutes to document the key components of your system--at least your modem, network adapter, printer, and sound and graphics cards. To find this information, simply open the Windows Device Manager and click the plus sign next to a given category to display the installed hardware of that type.
