What's the Help & How-to Newsletter Q & A all about?

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in our weekly Community Newsletter Help & How-to Newsletter Q&A. Our goal here is to bring our members closer together as a community by inviting members to participate in an interactive Q&A that lets you tap into the vast knowledge of CNET's community.

Every Friday, we'll post a member's Question of the Week from a wide variety of technical topics ranging from computer troubleshooting to digital photography; if you know the answer, send it in. If your answer is the best, we'll post it in the next Community Help & How-to Newsletter, and you will win a free Help.com Learning CD of your choice! So join in the fun--submit an answer. Also, if there's a particular question for which you want an answer, please let us know! Let's make this a great learning experience for all of our members to enjoy.

We welcome all member submissions, and it's a pretty straightforward process. However, we do ask that before considering a submission, you become familiar with our guidelines below. Thank you and enjoy!

Submission Guidelines:

  • Submissions must be in the form of an e-mail message.
       · Answer submissions should have the e-mail subject line as AOTW submission
       · Question submissions should have the e-mail subject line as QOTW submission
  • Submissions must be written in the body of your e-mail message, using plain text. Please do not include HTML or graphics in the body of your e-mail.
  • We will not accept any submissions with file attachments of any type.
  • Submissions must be written in English
  • When submitting an answer, since we are addressing a large audience from all technical backgrounds, we suggest sticking to plain English and using simple words that are not overly technical where possible.
  • When submitting a question, given the amount of space on our newsletter page, we ask that you keep your question to a maximum of 200 words. Please be sure to include all the necessary information (ie: operating system, model number, hardware, software, etc) that will help others identify your problem.
  • We accept submissions only from the original author of the content. By submitting your material, you acknowledge that you are legally entitled to distribute and/or have all reproduction rights to it and you agree that CNET may post your submission in the Community Help & How-to Newsletter and on the Web sites owned and operated by CNET Networks. For more information, please read the CNET Networks' Terms of Use.
  • Along with your submission, please include your name and the city, state, and country that you live in so that if you are selected to be included in our newsletter, we may contact you in order to deliver your Help.com Learning CD-ROM and so that we can give you credit for your submission. We will post only your first name; the first initial of your last name; and the city, state, and country that you live in. We will NOT post any e-mail addresses or personally identifiable information.
  • Submission cutoff date each week will be four days after the Community Help & How-to Newsletter containing the question that you seek to answer was mailed. Any submissions thereafter will not be accepted for review.
  • Employees of CNET Networks, Inc. and any affiliate of CNET Networks, Inc. and their immediate family members are not eligible to participate.
  • You may submit only one answer each week. If you submit more than one answer in any week, only the first answer received by CNET will be considered for inclusion in the Community Help & How-to Newsletter.

If your answer is selected:

  • While there will be many great submissions, we can select only one answer and one question to be published each week. Our editors will select the submission they believe provides the best answer submitted that week.
  • You agree that if your submission is selected, prior to publishing it in the Community Help & How-to Newsletter, CNET's editors may edit the submission for grammar and punctuation, as well as technical accuracy and length so long as the original meaning is not changed.
  • If your answer is selected to be in our Community Help & How-to Newsletter, we will contact you via e-mail to let you know that you have been selected as the winner, and details will follow in order for you to receive your free CNET Help.com Learning CD. Each CNET Help.com Learning CD has a value of approximately $30 to $150.
  • Your privacy is important to us. We will post only your first name; the first initial of your last name; and the city, state, and country that you reside in. We will NOT post any e-mail addresses or personally identifiable information. For more information, please read CNET Networks' Privacy Policy.
