Well, this was a close one until fourth quarter, when the Motorola MPx200 picked up the pace and forged ahead with a late burst. The Kyocera SE47 was certainly the better-looking team most of the way, with lots of flashy moves, but the Motorola's smarter play in crunch time allowed it to slip (or was it slide?) past the Kyocera.

THE FANS SOUND OFF:

• The slick sliding keyboard gives the Kyocera a real showstopper, but the Motorola again has smart-phone capability, and as we've seen, smart phones have been dominating this tournament. But this newcomer has lots of features and may be able to go the distance and get the upset.--Randy, Frederick, MD

• The review and prices for the SE47 should be updated ASAP since Verizon, too, has launched this sexy handset. If you sign a two-year agreement with this carrier, the Slider can be yours for just $49!!!!!--Patricia, San Diego, CA

• I helped promote the Slider by making videos on sliderstyle.com, and throughout the shoot, I got to play around with the phone a lot--it's great. You couldn't get it out of my hands. Plus, with the onslaught of flip phones, the sliding feature is a nice alternative--reminds me of the "Matrix" phone.

• Ms. Blecher nailed it--Motorola's straitlaced nature is its best quality. We need more straitlaced phones in the current sea of "gimmicks for gimmicks' sake" products.

• This will be a close call. The Motorola MPx200 is a good-looking smart phone with a decent feature set, while the Kyocera SE47 has broader appeal.

• My problem with Kyocera models has always been their quality. The company makes an interesting phone with a lot of bells and whistles, but be careful never to scratch or damage it because you will never get it fixed. Motorola, on the other hand, stands by its phones, and I have never had any problems quality-wise with them.

• The Slider's sex appeal gets it as many looks as Janet Jackson at the Superbowl half-time show, the only difference being that MTV isn't being penalized for this hot number.

• The MPx200 is a generation-late Kyocera 7135 with less battery life.  The Slider is hot, and MTV is pushing it. The comparison isn't apples to apples, but at least one of them has a cutting-edge look, and it isn't the MPx200.

• Kyocera is the brand of choice in my entire family. We have owned just about all the phones that Kyocera has made, and we love them (we are a family of nine members, so you do the math).

• The SE47 seems like a cool phone. It has the basics right: good performance and good battery life. Combine that with a stylish design, and I think we have a winner. I don't agree with the review that SE47 is bulkier than SL56. The SE47 is cool.

• While I'm not a big fan of Motorola, the "slider" phones seem downright silly. Plus, they have terrible voice quality. My vote goes to the MPx200.
