Wil's favorite tech toys

Here at CNET, we see a lot of gadgets, and while most of them are pretty cool, when it comes down to it, there aren't many on which we'd be willing to plunk down our not-so-hard-earned cash. That said, there are some products that are so damn cool that, if the money was there, we'd have no problem parting with it. Here's a list of my favorite tech toys. Fresh off the presses, the Samsung SCH-i730 is the ultimate Treo killer. With Windows Mobile 2003 SE and Verizon's push e-mail client, I'm able to stay connected whenever and wherever I am. Of course, no smart phone is complete without a wireless Bluetooth headset, and the Jabra BT800 can't be beat. All work and no play...ah, you know the rest. Creative's Zen Portable Media Center is more than an MP3 player--I watch videos as well as downloaded TV shows on this baby. This is the coolest toy I've come across in a long time. With the Hercules DJ Console (PC), I'm able to play DJ with all of my digital music. While smart phones are great, sometimes you just want to make and receive calls, as well as take pictures. The 1.3-megapixel LG MM-535 is a great phone, and the slider form factor turns more heads than a tennis match. What is there to say about the Mazda RX-8? This car is bad. Now, if only I could get Mazda to loan one to me for a while...

Review summary Small, light, and powerful, the Samsung SCH-i730's high-speed data support and built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi make it an excellent choice for those who have to stay connected at all times, though the crippled Bluetooth support may spoil the party for laptop road warriors. With its cool BT800 model, Jabra takes Bluetooth headsets to a whole new level of functionality. Eight months after its announcement, the Creative Zen PMC is finally here. Despite its bulk, the player is solid, but it's the Microsoft Portable Media Center software that deserves most of the praise. Budding laptop DJs will appreciate the way this compact portable device turns any laptop into a DJ rig, but for pros, it doesn't come close to the sound quality and tactile nature of vinyl. A multimedia phone, the LG MM-535's myriad features will please users. That said, we expect a high-end phone such as this to ship with Bluetooth. The RX-8's video game looks and rotary engine give it a technology edge, but its lack of cabin gadgets keeps the focus on driving.
