For most people, high-resolution cameras like these are overkill; a 7-megapixel model generally provides more than enough pixels for most snapshot photographers. With a resolution of 10, 12, or who-knows-how-many-more megapixels, though, you get a lot of leeway for cropping and enlarging your prints, which comes in handy if you take a really good shot, or a really bad one.
