  You think the same thought every time your VCR eats a tape or ends up in the repair shop: There has to be a better way. DVD recorders can do everything your old, tape-based machine can, and the resulting discs are smaller, more durable, and much cooler than bulky cassettes. Best of all, many of the basic models barely cost more than regular DVD players.
