Posted by: Matthew Elliott

News from the keynote: Apple is bringing Intel's new Centrino Duo chip to the iMac and a new laptop it's calling the MacBook Pro. Also, Mac OS X 10.4.4 and iLife '06 were announced.

Quickly, the hardware news: The new Intel-based iMac starts shipping today. Same price and sizes (17- and 20-inches) as previous G5 models. Jobs claims it to be 2 to 3 times faster than the iMac G5.

Say good-bye to the PowerBook and hello to the MacBook Pro. The MacBook Pro uses Centrino Duo, and there are two models: a $1,999 1.67GHz Core Duo and a $2,499 1.83GHz. Both feature ATI Radeon X1600 graphics and a 15.4-inch screen and weigh 5.6 lbs. Also, there's an integrated iSight camera, Front Row software, an IR receiver, and a remote. You can place your order today; the MacBook Pro will ship in February.
