New build of Internet Explorer 7 beta 2 released
Posted by: Robert Vamosi

There's a new build of Internet Explorer 7 for XP SP2 beta 2 dated March 20, 2006 (build 5335). However, the new version offers very few differences from the previous build, which was first available last January (build 5296). For more details on the basics found within IE 7, read our First Take and see our slide show of Internet Explorer 7 for XP SP2 beta 2.

If you're already running a previous build of IE 7 beta 2, you'll first have to uninstall it. To uninstall a previous IE 7 build, Microsoft advises the following:

1. Click Start > Control Panel.
2. Click "Add or remove programs."
3. Check Show Updates at the top of the dialog box.
4. Scroll down the list to "Windows XP - software updates," select "Internet Explorer 7 beta 2 preview," then click Change/Remove.

If "Internet Explorer 7 beta 2 preview" does not appear in "Add or remove programs" after clicking Show Updates, you'll need to run

[windir]$NtUninstallie7b2pmx$spuninstspuninst.exe (where [windir] is the location of your Windows directory).

However, in order to run this executable, you will first need to have View Hidden Folders enabled. To view hidden files, Microsoft advises the following:

1. Open Windows Explorer.
2. Click the Tools menu.
3. Click Folder Options.
4. Click the View tab.
5. Click "Show hidden files and folders.
6. Unclick "Hide protected operating system files."
7. Click OK.

I prefer Firefox best.

I downloaded IE 7 beta 2 in May 2006 after heariing how good it was, well downloaded it messed around with it but there were some differences when I uninstalled it, firstly when I made some changes to the browser settings like the way it searches they become noticeable when I went back to IE 6 also this browser is still to buggy to use and security can be a real pain especially when you are visiting a harmless website such as Micosofts. It is also not a real standalone if I wanted to use IE 6 I would have to go to the file directory such as MY Computer and type the address in the address bar to access IE 6.

And to be honest the new tabs are obviously taken from Firefox and Opera etc and The new menu bar replacing the toolbar is a bit hard to understand and it still doesn't render some sites properly and it's default search box search engine is MSN I've tried to change that but it was nearly impossible to do and is a complicated browser anyway.

I am sticking with firefox the best browser except for its quirks but it is simpler lighter and have the defualt search engine search box Google the best search engine.

P.S Microsoft has to stop intergrating it's browser in Windows dont they understand how risky it is on our behalf on security but no expect to see IE 8,9 and 10 in future versions of Windows and you know what uncle Bill as to say about "It's for the benifit of the consumer".

Internet Explorer 7

I installed the above"Terror" appeared.Microsoft spent more than one and half hour helping me .Tha finnally brought my computer back to what it was.
They had tried many things finnally they went into the registry and the computer came back.
It seems that IE7 thought that someone other than me put the program on, however there is noboby but me that uses my computer.
I was not even able to remove the program,in add and remove, despite that there were no bytes registered.
Please be very careful!!!!!!!!!!!!

Standalone availability of IE7 or IE6?

I'm sure that I'm not alone out there with the desire to run IE6 and IE7 on the same system without rebooting, preferrably without virtual machine software.

If there is a standalone version of either version 6 or 7, like there are for earlier IE versions does anyone know?

Is there some other way to run these 2 versions side by side?

Excellent Full Screen Browsing

Finally, somebody got full screen browsing right and I'm surprised it took Microsoft to get it right. So far IE 7 Beta has been stable and I have had no problems browsing with it. However, if IE6 is any indication, I am waiting on the barrage of security patches that usually accompany any Microsoft product.

I'm Sticking With Firefox!

I've never had a problem with Firefox. It's fast, flexible, and has given me the best browsing experience of any browser I've tried (IE, Avant, Opera). I just don't see the need to change.

McAfee Problem

Microsoft has released the Beta 2 Preview of the Internet Explorer 7 browser. Unfortunately, at this time our products will not work with IE7 Beta 2 Preview. Microsoft will not be patching IE7 until the Public Beta is announced. McAfee plans to support the release candidate when it is available. Please contact Microsoft for more information regarding Internet Explorer release dates. Please complete the following steps to uninstall Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 to allow your McAfee products to work correctly again:

Fixed bugs?

I removed the previous version because there were known bugs going to sites like turbotax.com, and Dell's support sites (there were others). There was some kind of hack-ish workaround to fix it (never read what the real problem was), but maybe that's what this release addresses.

Anyone willing to try? :D I'm still a bit apprehensive....

No difference??

If their is no difference as indicated in the commentary, why was an update released?

Anybody else have this problem?

I'm getting the old "Can't detect internet connection - do you want to work offline" error while surfing. Have tried Checking & unchecking "Automatic Detect" under all connections and shut down Firewall too to no avail.

Also, had problem connecting back to network after disconnecting. No problem as I used System Restore to fix and am now using IE 6 again, but I kind of liked "Interfox Explorer" and would like to use it if possible.
