Venzero MiniOne shows promise

Venzero is practically unknown in the United States, and it's no wonder why--the company's portable audio products aren't yet available stateside, though the Venzero One, a rather appealing-looking microdrive MP3 player, was announced back in April. And is it just me, or are these digital audio companies making us wait for excessively long periods of time between announcing and actually launching products? (Ahem, see: Creative Zen Micro Photo.) But back on point--Venzero just announced another new player, the flash-based MiniOne, and it looks fairly promising. The most exciting/unusual feature is the MusicMarker function, which allows you to use the built-in mic to record a clip of music that you hear in a club, on the radio, wherever. Then, next time you sync the device, Venzero's software will ID the song and point you in the direction of a suitable online music store. Pretty neat, actually. Here's the rest of the breakdown:

  • 1GB and 2GB capacities
  • Plays MP3, WAV, and WMA (including DRM-protected files)
  • Six EQ settings and SRS sound-enhancement settings
  • 1.3-inch color OLED display
  • JPEG and BMP photo support
  • Video support (conversion to proprietary format required)
  • Voice recording
  • Rechargeable battery with 12-hour rated battery life
