Over the weekend, Microsoft released a new build of its Windows Vista to a handful of testers. Unlike beta 1, build 5472 is not intended for the general public. Besides numerous internal bug fixes, this build sports tighter integration of design elements throughout the app. For example, gone is the hourglass for active processes, replaced with an arrow chasing itself in a circle, mirroring the new circular Start button for Vista. Also enhanced is the Media Center, featuring AJAX-like graphics that take you to a specific song or television show without using a Windows Explorer-like listing. The next code release should be the Windows Vista RC1, a release candidate that will appear toward the time of the final release, sometime in early 2007.

Time to buy a Mac

I've had vista loaded for 1 week now and it has been one problem after another since. I previously had no problems with Windows XP. My friends have Mac's with no problems. Guess it's time to switch!

Vista RC1 has arrived

I am so fed up with people making comments that have no possible function except to complain! In my opinion our country has gone to "hell in a handbasket" as the saying goes. Immigration, Political Correctness....what a crock! Unlike most I am going to say what is on my mind and give an honest initial evaluation of Vista RC1 for all that want to know. First, it is much better than the problematic Beta2 version previously released, which by the way is as it should be! The interface is great, slick, and easier to use than previous versions. Aero, if you have the required video support is awesome and scrolling between programs couldn't be easier. It is much more refined and does not hangup/lockup like the previous beta2 version when using multiple applications simultaneously. In fact, Vista RC1 has increased my display resolution so much it might as well be HD! Compatibility for older games, applications, and services works seamlessly especially with the original Quake and Civilization with better picture quality. Networking is a breeze and with the added security features creating multiple networks (ie home, work, etc.) takes no time at all. Virus protection is still an issue and only Avast! 4.7.877 beta and Trend's PC-cillan have versions that work for now; Avast! being free for home users! Another problem that I had when installing the other day is that there are a lack of drivers available for certain mobo built-in RAID controllers; it was difficult to find a workaround to be able to use my extra harddrive space. The new combination of Standby/Hibernate is a pleasant addition for those of use who hate waiting for our PC's to come out of hibernate/standby mode. For those of you beta testing Office 2007 I have to say that the locking problem experienced when using in conjunction with XP no longer exists when used with Vista RC1. The gadgets are interesting and some are helpful, but I believe that for the most part these are frivalous and should be allowed to shrink in size much like the office Toolbar. I have a really old printer that is still kicking so it is no suprise that I will have to get a new one to work with Vista..no drivers for my 8 year old printer! Tested he wireless printserver capability with a friends HP and it connected just as easy as the home networking. This being an initial evaluation because I have only had it for two days; so far so good and much better than previous releases! It is possible that Microsoft has gone back to its roots of Windows95 era to produce a better quality product rather than rushing to the sales floor like they did with Windows Me "God help me!".

Vista sucks

I downloaded Vista and immediately came up with problems.
1. Windows LiveOne Care will not work with Vista. So what am I paying for now?
2. MSN Premium, at $9.00 monthly will not work with Vista.
3. I could not add a wireless printer to my Vista laptop.
4. Feedback is a joke. After telling Microsoft about my problems, there has been a deafening silence, with no response. It seems they couldn't care less.

The bottom line: The present release of Vista, even though it is beta, sucks big.

I can hardly wait !

Well its strange to see people are getting feed up with MicroSoft's Vista already. Well Microsoft shud try & not hype it so much that people start to get iritated with the product rather than being happy about it. I am very anxious about the product & cant wait to get Vista on my System. I will eargerly tracking its realease date & Price as well:)

Thanks For The Info / Negative Comments

Thanks for the info CNet...I am very much interested in all that you say regarding this program. Also, I don't understand why there are so many negative comments here. What is not interesting to some may be to others, what may not be news to some may be news to others and no one is forcing you to read these articles. Find something else to do with your time other than knocking down a person trying to do his job especially if your comment serves no constructive purpose. Ever hear the expression "If you don't have anything good to say don't say it at all." If something dosen't interest you or if you cannot comment to be positive or helpful be on your way. That is what we are all trying to accomplish here isn't it? To help one another.

So What...

I'm so sick and tired of reading about Vista. "The hour-glass is gone", so what! I wish Vista was gone! Bad report by C/NET reporters, again! How about reporting why M$ is taking all the drivers for Vista and copyrighting them to M$ Publishing, example--The NVIDIA driver has the copyright of M$ Publishing instead of NVIDIA! The HP PCS 1310 series (printer) has the copyright of M$ Publishing and so on. I went straight to nvidia and got the real driver and installed leaving M$ Publishing a fart in the wind. Now copyright that!

Do we really care?

This is stupid why do I care about Microsoft releasing a new build in Windows Vista even Paul Thurrott said so that really there is nothing new in Windows Vista build 5472 except some new wall paper and such from now on Windows vista is just finished any new builds will be insignificant so really I don't understand why this has to end up here as news check out News.com Build 5472 is NOT a big deal.

If Microsoft releases any future builds they should be made public not secret. Windows Vista is not secret anymore and Microsoft should stop making all these interim builds ONLY available to small group of beta testers for God sakes Microsoft is not a high priority organisation with top secret beta testing they are just a software company making billions of buckies but I guess all companies with beta software only give the new betas of new software to select group of people and thanks to Microsoft I haven’t tried Vista because they made it impossible for me.
So I think that this news is given the thumbs down for me!

This is not news

It's already been reported by cnet's news.com, Why is it here in the review section and there was no actual review done, just "New build out, you can't dowload it".
