Various antivirus vendors are reporting that a newly updated version of Mocbot, which first appeared in late 2005, takes advantage of the Windows Server Service flaw first announced by Microsoft last Tuesday in its security bulletin MS06-040. While antivirus and security vendors both downplayed the threat from Mocbot--also known as IRCbot (F-Secure and Trend Micro) and Wargbot (Symantec)--the presence of this new bot underscores the need for everyone to patch their Windows systems ASAP. In particular, those who are using Windows 2000 and Windows XP SP1 are most vulnerable to this new attack. Windows XP SP2 users appear to be safe. Mocbot first appeared in late 2005. As of Sunday afternoon, a few antivirus software companies have updated their signature files to include this bot. For more information, see F-Secure, McAfee , Symantec, and Trend Micro.

I used to believe in Microsoft updates!

I used to believe in Microsoft updates/security patches, however when the the government gets involved (especially under this administration), and the updates make it impossible for me to view streaming video from the MSN website, using the latest Microsoft software (using IE 6 and WMP 10 as I already have, and then the resulting error messages said I had to upgrade to), and then when I couldn't use the restore feature of XP2, I say forget this! And when Symantec states that this patch interfers with their virus software (ZDNET.COM), one has to wonder? What is Microsoft up to?

A restore point should be a resore point! No questions. But after not being able to even view the MSN home page video after downloading the patches, I tried, but couldn't restore.

Microsoft can disable almost every computer under the guise of a security updade patch. And now when the government gets involved, I get a red flag.

I also e-mailed Microsoft about this with no reply (like that's suprising). Microsoft has to get cooperative with other software vendors or suffer more lawsuit from them. They keep on adding patches that makes other software not work. The EU has been keeping Microsoft's feet to the fire (regarding anti-trust), and it should be happening here too.

I truly don't know why Linux OS is not being supported by 3rd party software makers. Can anyone answer that question?

Glitch in MS06-040 fix

If you run 2003 Server sp1, you might want to look at this http://support.microsoft.com/?id=924054 . Large java apps can fail.
