No Razr is bad business for Sprint

Sprint Nextel isn't having the sunniest summer. Not only did the carrier report a 38 percent drop in earnings for the second quarter of this year, it also added fewer subscribers than both Cingular and Verizon Wireless. While those two providers continue to rank as the nation's largest and second-largest carriers, Sprint remains firmly in third place. And that's taking into account the merger last year between Sprint PCS and Nextel. But don't think the company isn't taking notice. This week it announced that COO Len Lauer was leaving and would not be replaced.

In their never-ending quest to analyze, analysts are blaming Sprint's doldrums on a lack of a clear brand identity and on the fact that the carrier has never offered the Motorola Razr. Granted, it is the world's most popular cell phone, but it's not like Sprint hasn't offered any viable alternatives. Regardless, however, Sprint is jumping on the Moto bandwagon. As Bonnie Cha said earlier this month, the carrier will pick up the Motorola Q and a variant of the Slvr.

Sprint???!!!

I left sprint because of their horrible reception, my unstable monthly bill (which i never understood no matter how many times I were told the explanation).

So I jumped ship and went to Alltel.

Funny Thing

I love when people write comments like the one here. "I have NEVER dropped a call." On one hand I don't believe this, because every company and every service will drop calls from time to time. Then there is the reasoning this may be true. In my area (North Dakota) Sprint is absolutely terrible and very very picky. If it connects which it usually won't then it will likely be a clear call. Where as with Verizon (which dominates in sales and service here) will connect with one bar or no bars visible on phone and the call may not be perfect all the time, but it is possible and that is important. If in an emergency I need to call out I can count on it working. Most users who write on here live in a big city where service is great because towers are plentiful. Here in the land of very few people per mile. Towers are not as frequent and a person then realizes how important a carrier really is. I am sure all the major carriers work well in the city but what if I am an hour from town? Who will be there then? Verizon... not Sprint and not Cingular or T-mobile. In fact in this area the only phones that are reliable are those on the Verizon network. I just want people to realize we don't all live in New York or L.A....... Verizon for Life!

That is the Exact reason why I left Sprint...

That is the exact reason why I left sprint two years ago. Prior to my leaving them, I was with Sprint since 1998. Then in jan 2005 is i switched from Sprint to Cingular and into my beautiful silver razr v3. Oh how I love thee...

But not only was it my love for the Razr, but, in general, Sprint's phone selections is horrible. Big, bulky, ugly...

And back then, Sprint had absolutely no upgrade program. If you were a current customer, and you wanted to upgrade your phone, they would offer no discount at all!

The response, at that time, was that you just had to pay "Full" price.

Sprint has the worst phone selection

My wife's corporate discount for Sprint PCS is the only reason we haven't switched.

They rarely offer any of the trendy phones and have a limited selection of what they do carry.
