Cardo has updated its Bluetooth motorcycle headset to include an FM receiver, enabling bikers to listen to the radio while weaving in and out of traffic. The Scala Rider FM follows on the heels of the Scala Rider, which we reviewed last fall, and incorporates all of the Bluetooth hands-free calling capabilities of its predecessor. These include automatic volume adjustment, voice-controlled receipt of incoming calls, and a noise-canceling microphone.

Riding a motorbike looks challenging enough to us without the distractions of chatting or channel surfing, but, hey, hands-free talking is better than trying to negotiate a cell phone or an iPod while on two wheels.

Missing Half

After reading an article about the Scala Rider FM, I went to their website. There was more info to go through and a nice photo showing the item with TWO speakers. I was sold. The next day I went to my local Suzuki dealer and had one ordered for me. It arrived a couple days later. I took it home and found it only had one speaker. I checked the instructions and they only refered to one speaker. I emailed Cardo and didn't get a response, so I called. I was told they received the email; seems they only sell the two speaker through their website, though there was no mention of it. I was told to take the unit back, get a refund and reorder from the website. The dealer told me the unit worked and they weren't going to refund me the money. I called back to Cardo and they said they would see what could be done for me. It's been three weeks and no call-back. The speaker wire is only long enough to reach my left ear, which only has half the hearing it should - I was too close to a couple explosions while in the military. Thanks Scala - Don't forget; Screw a Vet.

Check out a video review from a rider

Found this review by googling "Scala Rider Review"

You can actually hear the sound quality of the mic with it!

Another $15/month device

I can't believe people are actually buying DISPOSABLE bluetooth devices. After one year of use, any battery out there will not hold the charge anymore.
There is no way to replace the battery inside those bluetooth devices. So you have to buy a new one.
This device is great bluetooth headset..for a year.

How 'bout next time...

You actually have someone who rides a motorcycle write the review of a device designed for motorcyclists. We could then get the useful info that cnet provides without the innuendo that bikes are so dangerous. The primary danger to bikers is inattentive cagers.
