Microsoft today released Windows Vista Release Candidate 2 (RC2) build 5744 to a select number of Customer Preview Program (CPP) participants, as well as to members of itsTechBeta, TechNet, TAP, and MSDN community. Following the release of Windows Vista RC1 on September 1, 2006, Microsoft continued to receive feedback that warranted a second release candidate release. That said, the company hopes this is the last interim build before Windows Vista is released to manufacturing. As for whether Microsoft will meet its shipping goals for Windows Vista, a press release stated, "Microsoft continues to target Windows Vista availability for volume license customers in November 2006 and general availability in January 2007, although the final delivery will be based on quality." For more on this, see Ina Fried's News.com report.

RC2 looks like a controversial release after RC1

I've installed that release after using build 5728 (post-RC1), and I have to say there are so far more problems than before to me. For instance, Photoshop CS2 and Adobe (Macromedia) Fireworks 8 do not support Aero anymore... Why would that happen?
I understand everybody expected new sounds, new boot screen, and SLI support in RC2. No way. Surprisingly, the color theme has been changed, affecting maximized windows, nice change just before RTM.
I'm also amazed with dead silence about RC2 release, even winsupersite.com, which is always quicker than everyone else, has published only boring screenshots so far. Where is the review?
Are we really close to RTM, or it is just an illusion.

You guys are wrong.

The DRM in Vista will prevent you from playing certain high definition movies on a HD screen or monitor if you don't have the rights to do so. Meaning, if you stole a high defition movie off bittorrent, it won't play as a high definition movie, but just a regular resolution movie.

You'll be able to play everything you want, but if you stole a HD movie, the owner of the rights to that movie can have it not play as high definition. It's intrusive, but I doubt it would even affect many people.

Vista is more about DRM than being good for you!

With the exception of some flashy aeroglass graphics we don't need, and some nifty search functions, I haven't heard of any special reasons why the average user would want Vista.

In fact, this wonderous new Vista is chock full of advanced stuff to keep you from doing things like watching torrent-downloaded movies, using pirated software, as well as keep you from watching the legal movies you own on the big LCD and PDP televisions/projectors you paid a lot of money for.

This release of Vista is more about DRM (Digital Rights Management) than being an improvement for the user.

When will Microsoft release a COMPLETE Windows XP?

I'm still updating and patching the last OS I have purchased from Microsoft. Buy another? I don't think so. I'm still trying to receive what I paid for years ago.
