CES: I came for the gadgets and saw stars
Posted by: Suzanne Brannon

Could it be possible that there are more Hollywood A-list celebs (and B- and C-list, too!) on display at CES than gadgets? Well, maybe not, but the star sightings are getting a lot of buzz. Sightings have included K-Fed (Kevin Federline), Britney Spears, Snoop Dogg, Justin Timberlake, Nicole Richie (whom I personally got to see), Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes (a.k.a TomKat; got to see the backs of their heads), Dan Marino, Ellen DeGeneres, Jeremy Piven, Xzibit, Howie Mandel, and Pat O'Brien--just to name a few. Of course, we all know they aren't actually technophiles. They're just playing them at CES (for money, of course).

Segway rules CES

Segway rules CES
Yahoo Segway rickshaw that transports weary CES attendees.

Gob, from the much-loved and ill-fated TV show Arrested Development, would be in Segway heaven here at CES. There's a robot built on Segway technology being featured here, random people scooting around the showroom floor on Segways (and getting in everyone's way), and the very awesome Yahoo Segway rickshaws that are transporting people around. Could 2006 see the return of the Segway? We can only hope so my friends. We can only hope so.

Small-business technology conference
Posted by: Dorian Benkoil

Just found out there's a small-business technology conference planned for next month in New York, and at $99, it's not as break-the-bank expensive as some of these things. It's being run in part by Ramon Ray, master of SmallBizTechnology.com, which we like to pluck from, and will have speakers from some innovative companies such as Skype, which ultimately is a competitor to another company there, Verizon, and will also have a few small-biz bloggers and entrepreneurs.

It also plans to address the use of technology, how to set up a small-business Web site, and other bits. (Of course, after reading all of our Best Practices, you'll be able to be on a panel at the conference, but what the heck: doesn't hurt to tell you where you can meet a few people in the flesh who are as interested in small business as you. You can also meet them online in the CNET forums area.)
