Amazon to get movie downloads before iTunes?
Posted by:

Could it be? Could Amazon get a deal done to deliver for-pay movie downloads--which you could
burn to DVD (registration required)--
before iTunes gets there? Amazon is reportedly in talks with Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios, and Warner Brothers. This news, now that it's been reported, just gives Steve Jobs the names of the folks he needs to call.

Feds to Google: Turn over the goods
Posted by:

The federal government has told Google there's no way it can avoid handing over subpoenaed information about its users' search habits and, in fact, the company has
21 days to get 'er done. The feds want a random sample of a million Web searches to help the administration shore up its reasoning for an antipornography law. It has nothing to do with you, personally. I'm pretty sure.

Moto Razrs have defects
Posted by:

News.com is reporting that Motorola is working with T-Mobile and Cingular to replace defective
Razr V3s shipped last month. A faulty component in the slim, popular phones is causing them to randomly drop calls and reboot. The two carriers, which stopped selling Razrs earlier this week, told News.com that customers with affected handsets may bring them to carrier stores for an exchange. Motorola spokesman Alan Buddendeck said Razrs without the glitch will be available by next week. Verizon's
Razr V3c was not affected.

Samsung at CeBIT

The annual
CeBIT show is off and running in Hannover, Germany, and Samsung is quickly emerging as the star of the show. Just when we thought we'd seen it all at CES, when the company showed the 7-megapixel
V770 camera phone, Samsung has raised the bar even further with its new
SGH-B600. As our sister site CNET UK reports (the team actually got to
go to the show), the SGH-B600 may look like an ordinary candy bar-style phone from the front, but on the rear face is a 3X optical zoom and flash. You also get autofocus, a bright, 240x320-pixel display, a memory card slot, Bluetooth, and MP3 playback.
Samsung also introduced the Samsung SGH-i310 smart phone. Running Windows Mobile 5, it has an 8GB hard drive--still a rarity on a cell phone. Other features include a 2-meagixel camera, a digital music player, stereo speakers, and Bluetooth. And I know what you're asking next: Will we see those in the United States anytime soon? Unfortunately, the answer is no.
For complete coverage of CeBIT, check out CNET UK.
