TODAY'S E-MAIL:
Some help in Vegas--David Gates
Many years ago, I used to be a Nevada state official with one of my duties being the supervision of bail agents. I still know a few folks there in that line of work if you need a reference...
Mobile TV on a phone--Jonathan
You sound impressed with Samsung's mobile TV chipset, but there are a lot of Japanese, Koreans, and even Italians who'd probably say you're late to the party! Those countries have had mobile TV for a while using the DMB standard in Korea, 1Seg in Japan, and DVB-T in Italy (with the rest of Europe to follow soon enough). Perhaps the real story is that you might actually get a phone with that sort of feature in the U.S. Of course, by then I fully expect Samsung to have a Korean phone that makes waffles and travels through time.
Apple phone--Terry
Have you heard Leo Laporte's "The Tech Guy" podcast from New Year's eve (I believe)? He had a caller that has a source inside Apple that says that the new upcoming phone will NOT be unlocked. It will also be a CDMA phone, not a GSM phone, which would only be available with a couple of carriers (T-Mobile and Sprint, I believe). The caller had a lot of information, and Leo considered him to be quite credible because of the quality of his answers. I really hope it's not true.
Bummer.
