"Small, no lens poking out, bad indoors" on

Pros: Very small and easy to use. Don't really need a manual to work it. Good outdoor pictures in lots of light. LCD is really nice. Picked it up for $250 online where stores wanted over $300 for it.

Cons: Grainy shots indoors on every mode as another review points out. I bought it and want to return it but can't. Cannot snap pictures quick as focus and flash are slow (so my 1 year old is always turning away in pictures). Get a fast SD card since the one

"Two Friends Bought One" on by downtownblue

Pros: Small, Easy to Use, Fast Start Up, Impresses Friends :)

Cons: Menus are a little clumsy, Night Shots have Noise

Summary: I love this camera. I have a 5.1mp SLR camera as well and I'm starting to use this camera much more than the SLR. It's great to have in your pocket for those spur-of-the-moment shots. It's amazing start-up time only makes it better for that.

I use this camera for my studio work for site documentation so my needs are fairly technical. Even in these cases, I find the camera great and a viable option when I can't bring my SLR.

But night shots, as many people have brought up will cause some noise. It is more noticable than my SLR but not by much. But the power of the flash is amazing and sometimes, just trust the camera in it's autosettings to get the best night shot. I noticed there's a lot less noise than choosing the ISOs.

But in the end, when you print the photos you hardly notice any noise at all. I only noticed noise on the screen (in Photoshop) but printing it on 8x10 yeilds little noise at all in my opinion.

Daytime shots are amazing. I think this camera is not for high-end users. That's what my SLR is for and for them as well. But for point-and-shoot and everyday shooting, it's PERFECT. I recommend this for any normal camera user. And for the price and size as well as features, it's great. The non-protruding lens is a great technical feat as well.

As my One-Liner said, I recruited two friends to the X50 side. They like it too. And it fits so well in your pocket... It is really small! I mean, isn't that a great feature in itself?

"Lousy picture quality" on by conaghan

    Pros: Small and compact

Cons: Almost impossible to take a decent picture

Summary: A camera is supposed to take pictures, first and foremost. Since most reviewers seem to forget this and lose themselves among all the features, it's hard to buy a camera that you know will take good shots. This camera disappoints on almost every level. Unless you're taking pictures in bright sunlight and without zooming, your pictures will be worthless. At the zoo on a lovely day, I got some nice pictures. On almost every other occasion, the pictures aren't worth printing and look terrible on the computer screen. The flash washes out too much. If you're in a poor lighting situation (e.g. indoors or outside at sunset) keep the camera in your pocket. Don't waste your time. Since the small size of this camera allows you to take it easily to parties, weddings and dinners, it would be nice if it took decent pictures indoors. Perhaps pocket size cameras are really just for your pocket and shouldn't be used.

"Ultra Fast,Slim with visible Noise in pics" on

Pros: Ofcourse few of the greatest feature of this camera is Slim, ultra fast , light weight ,easy to operate ,big LCD.

Cons: I took the pics with this one n compared with the one from Canon s410 , believe me that 4 MP had better clarity n less noise in the pic than the one's from X50 . So i would say ,Canon Elph S50 is definitely a good pick only with downside that it has smal

"Convenient Point & Shoot" on by rldunc

    Pros: Quick bootup; short shutter-delay

Cons: Marginal autofocus in low-light situations; noisy (grainy) indoors pictures, even at highest resolution

Summary: This is my third digital camera over the past five years. My old Sony DSC30 still takes great inside pictures (but had no optical viewfinder - making outdoors pictures a real challenge). My Nikon CoolPix has served me well for several years, but is slow and clunky. The Dimage x50 looks great, is extremely easy to use, boots up quickly, and has an acceptably-short shutter response lag. I really wanted a smaller, quicker camera that I could take everywhere, and this fits the bill. Quality of the images is OK for snapshots, and even up to 5x7's; but indoor pictures are marginally focused, and noisy. Any camera with a flash so close to the lens will produce "red eye" - but it seems much more noticable on this X50.

Overall: OK for a snapshots; if I want really good pictures, I'll get out my old 35mm SLR.
