"Two Words! NO WARRANTY!" on by kidfam
Pros: Great sound and features. Very Impressed!
Cons: NO WARRANTY!
Summary: Read the CNET review and cliked on link at bottom of page to one of the "CNET certified" retailers. When unit arrived it would not play MP3's. Called Cambridge Soundworks Tech Department and they determined that I had a bad unit and it needed to be replaced, HOWEVER, since I didn't buy from an "authorized retailer" the warranty was not valid. Everything I read stated a 1 Year Warranty, even on their site, and no mention of "authorized retailers." I've even found stores that claim to be authorized retailers but are not listed on the Cambridge site. My guess is that unless you buy directly from Cambridge they will give you a hard time with any warranty work.

"Outclasses The Overpriced Competition" on by Jimro
Pros: Superb, realistic sound that you tailor to your preferences
Cons: Not the prettiest unit
Summary: I sit here in disbelief at the conclusion that some have voiced visa vie the new Bose Wave System. Having spent some time a-b ing the two units in the company of two others, we find the Cambridge 740 unquestionably to be the better performing unit. When you set the 740 at its mid settings...bass, treble..wide stereo off..it has a fuller, clearer and overall superior sound to the new Bose. Now with the Bose, you cannot tailor the bass and treble at all! When you set the Cambridge 740 to stereo wide, bass +2, treble +3..it so outclasses the Bose as to make any comparison incontravertible. Try it yourselves before you spend an extra $200 for the inferior Bose. The Bose is a fine unit...just cannot compete with the more reasonably priced 740. If I had not heard them myself, I would surely have purchased the Bose..given the company's superb reputation.

"Unit Breaks, CSW Does Nothing" on by afields7
Pros: Sounds good when it works
Cons: Incredibly unreliable
Summary: Buyer beware. If you read the reviews here and elsewhere you will discover that this unit has serious reliability problems, especially concerning the CD player. My unit had a different problem: the speakers stopped working. But, when I sent the unit back to CSW for repair, they replaced it with a "remanufactured" unit that had a broken CD player. It has been several months of back and forth with CSW and still no remedy or repair. Just unfulfilled promises. I will post again if this (ever) is resolved. In the mean time, use your money to buy something that is reliable or that is from a manufacturer who stands behind its products.

"It's oooooooooooook....." on by krustooo
Pros: Probably a better deal than the bose
Cons: Definitely not the high end sound I expecting
Summary: I like it... I use it a lot... I've also heard better. The sound that comes out of this thing is not very crisp or clean and that might be my preference. Its also extremely boomy. Even listening to NPR, so much bass is emitted that I should probably get up and do the running man. Not sure if it's worth getting for just an alarm clock, but it would probably be enough bass for your next house party.

"great sound but poor mechanics" on
Pros: I bought this product five months ago and was impressed by the great sound - easily as good as a Bose CD player costing twice as much.
Cons: The problem came when the CD player started to reject CDs, even those it had played previously. Then there was a problem with the warranty - no packaging by then. Still awaiting result
