"Misleading & RAM failure out of the box"
Pros: the price, you know what they say about if it sounds too good...
Cons: Horrible Tech Support, No reliability, All samsung parts, long wait times, and 2 months to process returns.
Summary: Purchased in Dec. of '04, paid $1,200 for the 8400 with a 3.4gig, 512RAM 160gig HD, ATI Radeon X300SE, 17" LCD etc. Great price, but it's too good to be true. Their tech support read from scripts and would fail a basic computer test. They insisted a PSU for the 8400 had 75 watts even after waiting 20mins to get the answer. There's ALWAYS a huge wait time, and people who you can't understand, and understand computers even less. The Computer itself didn't come with an ATI Radeon X300SE but a SAMSUNG RIPOFF of a X300SE. TOTALLY misleading! and there was NO disclaimer about "board manufacturer varying from the chip maker" a clause that since seems to have been added. The computer had RAM failure out of the box, and even after they replaced it (with refurbed!! Ram) it still would crash for no reason. When Norton Windoc 2003 was run on the machine there were over 300 errors!!!
The machine had ...
Samsung RAM
Samsung HD
Samsung CD drve
Samsung V-card
Hitachi DVD drive
"Dell" motherboard
"Dell" Case
The system is a HORRIBLE deal. I work in computer retail and computer support, and I've never seen such a horrible computer company. They've taking over 2 months to process my return, and I STILL DON'T HAVE MY MONEY!! Yes they tell you 7-9 days for a return, lol what a joke! Build your own, or if you can't check local computer stores, if not get an Alienware PC which is what I did.

So I Bought this new highly advertised awesome Dim 8400 3.4 160GB HD, double 512 MB of memory, running only security, word, works, printer, and other basic minimal programs. I shut down unnecessary programs, and still got only 60% available system resources.
I also got blue screens up the ying yang, not responding messages and other error codes and problems usually associated with low memory. So I bought another 1GB, but was only able to achieve 79% system resources, and still got not responding and blue screens memory dump shutdowns.
Hell, my old Compaq Presario 5000T 700Mhz with 768 MB of memory had 85%, even running XP Home.
It was clear to me from the beginning that this computer would not stand up to the touting of Dell's product and service claims.
I have been plagued by one problem after another. Today, I rec'd my third Dim 8400 withing the last 10 months. But the computer that they sent me today was missing hardware, and configured improperly. I got hardware startup and seek failures, then got blue screens after installing my DSL system along with not responding messages.
I am so damn sick of dealing with Dell. I am so tired of talking to inept techs from India who don't know how to diagnose their ***** out of a paper bag.
I would suggest to all computer mfgs in this country to immediately stop outsourcing their tech and service jobs to India and other inept countries or they will lose the loyal customer base that has helped propel them into the new century.
Remember what happened to the American Automotive Industry...Toyota --- need I say more.
I already put the replacement computer back in its box, called for the p/u, which is tomorrow, and am I returning the old system back to Dell with a complaint.
I had negotiated a settlement with the price of the computer for all my troubles, but after today, I am recinding my offer and returning this worthless system for a full credit, backed by my attorney of course.
I am contacting the Federal Trade Commission and the Calif Attny Gen regarding the false advertising and overall product failure.
The law says that a product must perform to the standards that have been layed out by the company. If a product does not meet these basic requirements, the company is in violation of fair trade laws. -
Samsung is the largest manufacture of computer components in the world. And ATI licences there product to many company's with very strigent guideline, they are not "nock offs".
